Update on the Zoning Code Adoption Process

At its meeting on July 8, 2026, the Town Board began the formal review process for the proposed zoning code and zoning map updates.

The next steps are as follows:

  1. SEQR and agency review
The Town Board declared its intent to serve as Lead Agency under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR). Part 1 of the Full Environmental Assessment Form (EAF) will be distributed to surrounding municipalities as part of the coordinated SEQR review. The draft zoning code will also be submitted to Onondaga County for review under New York State General Municipal Law § 239.
  2. Environmental review
Provided that no significant issues are identified during the review, the Town Board is expected to consider Parts 2 and 3 of the Full EAF and a potential Negative Declaration at its August 2026 meeting.
  3. Final revisions, public hearing, and potential adoption
Following completion of the environmental review, Barton & Loguidice (B&L) will review comments received from the County and the State, incorporate any revisions accepted by the Town, and prepare a final draft. A public hearing is anticipated for the September 2026 Town Board meeting. At that meeting, the Town Board may consider adopting the updated zoning code and zoning map.

The July 8 meeting represented the first step in this three-step review and adoption process. Documents referenced in this update are attached below.
