Update from the Supervisor
The Town of Tully held a public hearing on July 8 at 7:00 p.m. to gather public input on a proposed new local law regulating solicitation within the Town. The regular July Town Board meeting followed the hearing.
During the meeting, the Town Board received recommendations from the Zoning Committee, presented by the Town’s zoning consultant, B&L. This was a presentation for the Board’s consideration, not a public hearing on zoning updates.
The Town also announced a $71,000 grant award from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The funding is intended to support construction of a paved sidewalk from the High School to the Route 281 intersection, improving pedestrian access and safety. The Town was working to obtain the necessary easements from Tully School and ESF.
In addition, the Town received a County grant to fund planning for a possible future expansion of the walkway to Green Lake. This planning grant is an important step toward exploring improved connectivity and recreational access.
Our Sincere Apologies
Despite careful planning, unexpected circumstances can occasionally disrupt even the best-laid arrangements.
Our newsletter printer recently underwent an internal reorganization, and last month’s newsletter was overlooked during that transition. Although both the editor and the Town followed up, changes in personnel and communication channels contributed to the delay.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused. Every edition is published online at this website, and a link is also shared on the private Tully, NY Facebook page when an issue is submitted for publication.
We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we are hopeful that future editions will once again be delivered smoothly and on schedule.

Hot Weather Safety Advisory from the Tully Hose Company
High temperatures, strong sun and humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illness, especially for children, older adults, outdoor workers, athletes and people with certain medical conditions.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty.
- Take breaks in shade or air conditioning whenever possible.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, a hat and sunscreen.
- Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
- Never leave children, pets or vulnerable people in a parked vehicle.
Warning signs of heat illness include heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, rapid heartbeat, confusion, fainting or hot, dry skin. Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone becomes confused, passes out, has a very high body temperature or stops sweating while overheated, call 911 immediately and move the person to a cooler place while help is on the way.
Reapply sunscreen regularly, seek shade and check on children and neighbors during hot days. A little caution can prevent a serious emergency.

Opinion: We Are Good Neighbors Too
Reader opinion. The views in this section are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect the position of the Town Board or its members.
The May issue of the Tully News devoted its back page to “How Close Is Too Close? Industrial turbines, local choice, and the future of our southern hills,” submitted by Annie Barbedo on behalf of Southern Hills Wind Watch.
This was an opinion piece, and I have nothing against that. However, it followed numerous other articles over the last couple of years, often unsigned and presented as fact-based news stories. Recently, black-and-white anti-turbine yard signs throughout the Village and Town were joined by larger red signs urging us to be “good neighbors.”
My husband and I are not scientists, but we know alternative energy sources are being researched and implemented, including wind energy. Wind turbines have been used successfully in many parts of the world, including our own country. Right now, I am neither for nor against wind turbines in Tully, but I bristle at the suggestion that we are not good neighbors unless we take a stand against them.
Could we have more fact-based information in the Tully News about wind energy? If it is impossible to present anything other than opinions, I would at least like to see other opinions so I can begin to form my own.
Thank you.
